Jean Lafitte BioBlitz FieldScope Project
FieldScope is a National Geographic tool for exploring, sharing, and analyzing real-world data sets, including observations from students and scientists studying the world around them. Before getting started with FieldScope take a tour to learn about what you can do with this online tool."
In the Themes tab you can turn on and off layers of maps and information. You can change the visibility of some layers by dragging the sliding bar.
When you are viewing a map theme, click on the information icon to view the map legend and learn more about it.
Explore layers of photos to learn about the park environment.
Use the menu drop down near the top right to select different base maps.
Select the question mark tool and click on the map to get information about a map theme you have turned on.
To compare housing density over time, select two different years. Then move the vertical bar back and forth across the map to compare the selected years.
Use a set of drawing tools to customize your map with markers, shapes, lines, and labels.
Measure distances on the map. Select the tool and click on the map to start your line. Move your mouse and click again to keep measuring, or double click to finish. Select the arrow tool when you are done measuring.
Identify exact locations on the map using the latitude and longitude display at the top right. The latitude and longitude values change as you pan around the map.
Click on the the icon at the top right corner to view the map in full-screen.
The save button lets you download an image of the map to your computer. The link button generates a unique URL link to share your map with others.
You can add your own community BioBlitz data to the project. To get started, click Sign In to register for a free account.
When you are signed in, a new tab for adding your bioblitz species data will appear. Click New Station to add a new location (for example, your school). Then click on the map to mark the location.
After adding a new location, it will appear in the list. Select your location and click Add Observation to add your data.
You can also add photos of wildlife you encounter during your bioblitz. Select Add Photo and then click on the map at the location where you took the photo.
"You can also add photos by using the Project Noah mission set up for the Jean Lafitte BioBlitz. Add your photos to the mission, and they will appear in the Project Noah layer avaiable in the Themes tab.
In the Themes tab, click on the Species Observations and Stream Health layers to explore your data and data others have input.
